Martha Walters

Martha died on the morning of December 7, 2019 in the comfort of her home. Martha was born February 12, 1928 in Kalamazoo Michigan, the daughter of Milton and Mildred (Abbot) Williams. A lifelong Kalamazoo and Portage resident Martha was preceded in death by her parents, brother's Carl, Wayne and Roy and sister Marguerite. Martha was also preceded in death by her much loved sister-in-law and friend Pauline Walters. Martha graduated from Kalamazoo Central and attended Western Michigan University before marrying her husband Carl, who survives, on February 26, 1949. Martha returned to school in the 1970's, earned her LPN and worked for a number of years at the Upjohn Nursing Home. Martha was a devoted mother to her seven children, all surviving; Ruth (Gary) Dare, Susan (Ken) Kuchenreuther, Jane (Steve) Dimmick, Brian (Steve Hodges) Walters all of Portage; Kelly (Craig) Ackerson of Kalamazoo, Jim (Karen) Walters of Battle Creek and Donna (Dave) Schuring of Portage; 20 grandchildren; several great and great-great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, December 18th at Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery with Pastor Derl Keefer officiating. There will be no visitation.
