Martha Kiel

Kiel, Martha G. Kalamazoo, MI Martha Grace Kiel went to be with her Lord and Savior on February 1, 2021. She was born February 17, 1927 in Portage Township, MI a daughter of Jacob and Jacoba (Maring) Sluys. On May 28th, 1947, she was united in marriage to the love of her life, John Kiel, who passed away on June 1, 1987. Her most important job, as she would put it, was raising five souls for the Lord. She supported her husband in his greenhouse business and produce gardening. She loved bowling, shopping, and spending time with family. She was a member of Prairie Edge Christian Reformed Church and attended Park Village Pines Chapel Services. She loved hymns which she sang with her children until her last day. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Harmina Terpstra; great-grandson, Nathan Balkema; and several in-laws. Martha is survived by her five children, Elaine & Carl VanderRoest, Mary & Doug Lemmer, Jane & David Knapp, John & Arlene Kiel, and Nancy & Mike VanderKlok; 19 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Grace Cook; several in-laws; and many nieces and nephews. Graveside committal services were held in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park, South. A service to celebrate Martha's life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 17, 2021 in Prairie Edge Christian Reformed Church, 9316 Oakland Drive. COVID-19 protocol will be followed with masks required and social distancing. Memorial contributions may be made to the Park Village Pines Employee Appreciation Fund.
