Martha Marie Byholt, age 95, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on March 9, 2020. Martha was born August 2, 1924 in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Wietze and Flora (Eisenga) Terpstra and was a lifelong Portage resident. On April 5, 1946, she was united in marriage to Jacob "Jake" Byholt. Martha was a lifelong member of the First Reformed Church of Portage, where she had been active in many organizations throughout the years. She enjoyed playing the organ and listening to music. For 25 years she had worked in Peterman's Greenhouse on Schuring Road. Family was the most important part of her life. Spending time together, traveling, and just doing the "family stuff together". Surviving are her two children: John (Marcia) Byholt and Diane Byholt; three grandchildren: John (Amie) Byholt, Lisa (Ryan) Brown and Tom (Sarah) Byholt; six great-grandchildren: Sofia, Jack, Ava, Macey, Jace and Carter; many nieces and nephews. Martha was preceded in death by her husband Jake Byholt; a great-granddaughter Hailey Brown; her parents and all of her siblings: Claus Terpstra, Grace Schuring, Lawrence Terpstra, George Terpstra, Jim Terpstra, Jeanette Goff and Frances Goole; and a nephew Rein Terpstra who became a part of the family. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00PM on Wednesday, March 11th at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Burial & Cremation Services, 411 E. Centre St., Portage, MI. The Funeral Service will be held 11:00AM on Thursday, March 12th at the First Reformed Church of Portage, 7905 S. Westnedge Ave. with Pastor Clayton Smith officiating. Burial will be held in Portage Central Cemetery. Memorials in Martha's memory may be directed to First Reformed Church of Portage.
