Marion C. Groulik, age 87, passed away Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at the Elizabeth Gardens. Marion was born in Racine, October 28, 1928, daughter of the late George and May (Nee: Flanigan) Sura. She was baptized at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Marion attended St. John Nepomuk and Sacred Heart Elementary Schools and graduated from St. Catherine’s High School “Class of 1947”, Dominican College in 1959, and U.W. Whitewater. As a member of the always revered Racine Dominicans, known as Sr. Agnes George, she taught in parochial schools in Wisconsin and Michigan. She retired from the Dominican Order in 1970 and joined the Kenosha Public School Systems in 1971 and was a Chapter One Resource Teacher there until her retirement in 1990. On April 19, 1974, she married Jerome J. Groulik at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church. They had many adventures together as they purchased and renovated a downtown building and drove classic Mustang cars to car shows. She enjoyed listening to Jerry play the harmonica especially her favorite song “You are my Sunshine, My only Sunshine.” Her hobby was tracing her family’s history and that of her husband’s family. She succeeded in writing stories about each family’s history. She made great use of the Mormon Family History Library. Because of her interest in genealogy she belonged to the Racine Heritage Society and the Milwaukee Genealogical Society. She had also belonged to the British Allsop Family Group, the Irish Gen. Soc. and the German Gen. Society and St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church. Marion loved gardening and flowers, was well loved and will be dearly missed.

Marion is survived by her husband, Jerome; her brothers, Donald (Jeanne) Sura, Richard Sura, James Sura, (Janet); many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by an infant brother, Robert; sisters-in-law, Nancy Sura, Mary Josepoitz; brothers-in-law, Frank and Stanley Groulik; nephew, Donald G. Sura Jr.; and special friend, Bill Geb.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, January 20, 2016, 11:00 A.M. at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church, 1903 Green Street, with Rev. Ken Mich officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Wednesday at the church, 9:00 A.M. until time of Mass. Memorials to St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church, Siena Center, or the Elizabeth Gardens Music Program have been suggested.

Thank you to all that touched her life in any way so as to leave a memory of her in your heart. A special thank you to Elizabeth Gardens for the excellent care, love, support and compassion for her entire time there and to continue for “Her Jerry”.

Marion was a very Christian loving woman who will leave us with many memories of good times. We love you Aunt Marion!!

We will take care of Uncle Jerry.
