Marilyn H. Nikolai, age 86, passed away at her home on Wednesday June 14, 2017. Marilyn was born in Racine on May 1, 1931, daughter of the late Harvey and Magdalene (nee: Fischer) Schemel and had been a lifelong resident.

She graduated from St. Catherine’s High School “Class of 1949”. On August 13, 1955, Marilyn was united in marriage to Herbert C. Nikolai at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church where they were longtime dedicated members. They were married for fifty three years, before Herb passed away on August 29, 2008. She volunteered with St. Mary’s Auxiliary for thirty years. In her spare time, Marilyn enjoyed reading, playing cards, her dart ball league with St. John’s, and her bowling leagues at Douglas Bowl and Paradise North. Above all, Marilyn will be best remembered for her great love and dedication to her family.

She will be dearly missed by her sons, Herbert Nikolai, and Kenneth (Michele) Nikolai; grandsons, Christopher Nikolai, Jeffrey (Mandy) Nikolai and their mother, Joan Nikolai, and Michael (Katie) Nikolai; great grandchildren, Jacob and Liam; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Eugene Nikolai, Norman (Joan) Nikolai, Jane Shipley; dear cousins, Eileen Hayek, Joyce (Joseph) Goulais, Ed Hayek, Jean Schemel, Elaine Pinta; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1533 Erie Street, on Wednesday June 21, 2017, 10:30 a.m., with Rev. Steve Varghese officiating. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of Mass. Memorials to the Disabled American Veterans have been suggested.
