Broekema, Marilyn J. Of Portage, MI Marilyn Jean (Beekman) Broekema, age 83, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on January 6, 2021. Marilyn was born November 26,1937 in Kalamazoo Michigan, the daughter of Adrian (Dale) and Elizabeth (Betty) Beekman. On April 5,1957 she was united in marriage to David Lee Broekema. Marilyn was an active member of Prairie Edge Christian Reformed Church for many years. Her greatest joy was her love for Jesus and spending time with her family. Marilyn loved taking care of her children, granddaughters, and great grandchildren. She never missed one of their performances or sporting events and she always made time for an unexpected visit. Since 1974, friends and family gathered every Sunday after church for coffee and Marilyn's homemade goodies. She loved to bake, knit, read, and work in her flower gardens. Her Bible was filled with underlines and notes from her studies. Marilyn loved teaching the little ones about Jesus and she lived her faith daily, serving all she came in contact with. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Joan (Wayne) VanTil. Survived by her loving husband Dave; children: David (Alyssa), Steve (Rhonda), Julie (John) Evenhouse, Tom (Rita), Tim (Susan); grandchildren: Kelli (Brendan) Collins, Marlee Broekema, Taylor (Alan) Douglas, Daly Broekema, Holli (Ryan) Smith, Meagan (Graham) Visser, Katie (Alex) Tolksdorf, Krista (Billy) Irvine, Kelsey Broekema, Kasey Broekema, Gabi Broekema; great-grandchilden: Natalie, Tyler, Eleanor, Mary, Thomas, Ella, Henry, and Payton; a sister, Kathy (Harold) Wykstra; several in-laws, nieces and nephews. The family would like to say a heartfelt thank you for the wonderful care provided to all of us by Dr. Anna Hoekstra, the West Michigan Cancer Center and Hospice Care of South West Michigan. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan, or Twelve Baskets Food Pantry in Portage Michigan. Due to Covid concerns there will be no services at this time, a memorial service will be held at a later date to be announced.
