Marie Smith

Smith, Marie (Beyer) 12/9/1927 - 8/30/2021 Papillion NE Marie Smith passed away on August 30, 2021, in hospice care in Papillion NE. She was born on December 9, 1927, to Hugo and Minna (Aschmaneit) Beyer, on the family farm in Almena Township MI. She attended Acorn Country School and graduated from Paw Paw High School. After high school she was a secretary at the Claridge Fan Company in Kalamazoo, where she met her husband Robert ("Bob") V. Smith. Bob and Marie were married on August 6, 1948. Marie was a homemaker and then worked for many years at Romence Garden Center in Portage, which sponsored her local radio show "The Green Plant Lady". Marie was an accomplished gardener and seamstress, and enjoyed needlework and other crafts. She shared a love of nature and travel with her husband Bob. After retirement, they spent winters at the California Central Coast, where they enjoyed walking and viewing the flora and fauna. Marie is survived by her daughter Christine Smith (Lynne MacDonald ) of Bellevue NE, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Marie was predeceased by her parents, her husband Bob, her son Jeffrey Smith, and her siblings Dora, Horst, Gertrude, Martha, Elsie, Bud, Bill and Gus. Memorial contributions in Marie's memory may be made to the Kalamazoo Nature Center.
