Marie Poe

Poe, Mrs. Marie Comstock, MI Died Thursday evening December 1, 2016 at her residence. Marie was born May 5, 1929 in Wildcat, Virginia a daughter of Henry and Cora (Butler) Chambers. She had been a Kalamazoo area resident since 1966, coming from Alabama. She was also a member of the Mall City Church of Christ and formerly was a member of the East Main Church of Christ. She loved teaching Bible classes. For a number of years you could find her teaching on the Joy Bus. She also loved quilting. Marie was preceded in death by her parents; her father who raised her, Jesse A. Griggs; 2 sons, Dennis Poe in November of 2008 and Ronald Poe in September of 2011; 2 granddaughters, Lorena Wager and Shandra Wingler; 5 brothers, Jerry, Harold, J.W., J.H., and Russell; and a sister, Sadie Ammons. On July 15, 1949, she was united in marriage to Paul E. Poe who survives. Also surviving, a son, Roger (Joyce) Poe of Comstock; 3 daughters, Shirley Tinney of Comstock, and Marcia (Darryl) Hulsey of Boaz, AL and Regina (George) Gunnells of Albertville, AL; many grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; many great-great-grandchildren; 4 sisters, Myrtle Robles of Albertville, AL, Martha Beavers of Bridgeport, AL, Annie (Richard) Klopp of Chicago, and Edna Shockley of Scottsboro, AL; and many nieces and nephews. Services will be held 11 o'clock Tuesday at the East Main Church of Christ, 2528 East Main St. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 6-8pm Monday at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Comstock Chapel, 6121 King Highway. Interment will be in Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery Chapel. Memorials may be directed to the Mall City Church of Christ.
