Margaret Mary Stauss, age 93, passed away Sunday, January 22, 2017 at Ascension All Saints Hospital. Margaret was born in Racine, January 5, 1924, daughter of the late Ronald and Lillian (Nee: McCarthy) Stauss.

Margaret graduated from Washington Park High School, “Class of 1942” and with the onset of WWII she enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Margaret proudly served from 1943-1946 as Specialist Communication 3rd Class stationed at the Pentagon. She was employed by Western Publishing for forty-nine years retiring in 1991. Margaret was a longtime active member of St. Edward Catholic Church and belonged to the Woman of St. Edward’s. In her earlier years, she enjoyed bowling and volunteered her time at the old St. Mary’s Hospital on Grand Ave and the Harmony Club. Above all it was the love of family she treasured the most. She was always there to lend a helping hand whatever the need and thoroughly enjoyed the time spent with her family especially her nieces and nephews. She will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her sisters, Joanne Wakeford of Racine, Carol Reid of Houston, TX; sister-in-law, Ellen Stauss of Racine; many nieces, nephews other relatives and dear friends. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brothers, Robert and Donald; and brothers-in-law, Clayton Wakeford and Kenneth Reid.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, January 31, 2017, 11:00 A.M. at St. Edward Catholic Church, 1401 Grove Avenue, with and Reverend Richard Molter officiating. Interment with Full Military Honors will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Monday at the funeral home 4-6 P.M. and Tuesday at the church 10:30 A.M. until time of Mass at 11:00 A.M. Memorials to St. Edward’s Catholic Church or the Stars and Stripes Honor Flight have been suggested.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staffs at Home Harbor, Lakeshore Manor 4th Floor and the 3rd Floor at Ascension All Saints Hospital for their loving and compassionate care.
