Margaret J. Heiman

Margaret J. Heiman, 93, of Battle Creek, passed away Monday, May 4, 2009 at Bickford Cottage. She was born July 6, 1915, in South Haven, the daughter of Roy and Albertina (Hoppe) Hinz. Margaret previously had lived in Kalamazoo. She was trained as a cosmetologist and had been employed by Gilmore Brothers Department Store. Margaret married Mr. Burt Heiman in 1951. He preceded her in death in 1989. She enjoyed being a homemaker after their marriage. Margaret enjoyed square dancing with her husband and was a Charter Member of the Wagon Wheels Square Dance Club. Her other interests included sewing, reading, visiting South Haven and the lakeshore, and traveling, especially on cruises. Margaret was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the church's Miriam Circle. Margaret is survived by her children, Jeff Crandell of Costa Rica, Joan (DeWayne) Cox of Harbor Springs and David (Theresa) Heiman of Hayden Lake, ID. She also leaves her grandchildren, Anne Cox, David Heiman Jr., Todd Heiman, and Denea Heiman and four great-grandchildren. One of six children, she is also survived by her brother, George (Martha) Hinz of Kalamazoo, and her long-time family friend, Bill Hemmer. She was preceded by her grandsons, Eric and Jeffrey Cox. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Royal Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 8, 2009 at Royal Funeral Home. Interment will be at Lakeview Cemetery, South Haven. Condolences for the family may be directed to the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church or Heartland Hospice.
