Life Story / Obituary


Margaret Jane Couturier, 93, of Traverse City, died Tuesday, April 1, 2014. She was born on Aug. 15, 1920, in Traverse City, the daughter of Frank and Mabel (Couturier) Stachnik.

Margaret retired after 22 years of service with Munson Medical Center.

She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church.

Margaret enjoyed crocheting, gardening and her flowers. She loved to take drives, especially in Leelanau County.

Margaret is survived by her daughter, Diane “Dani” (Jerry) Breithaupt; sons, Gary Couturier and DuWayne Couturier, all of Traverse City; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; sister, Doris Weber, of Traverse City; and brother, Arthur Stachnik, of Traverse City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, LeRoy W. Couturier; and longtime companion, Wayne Courtade.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 23, 2014, at the St. Francis Catholic Church, with the Rev. Father Ken Stachnik as celebrant. Burial will be in the Oakwood Catholic Cemetery, Traverse City.

Memorial contributions may be made to Munson’s Healthcare Foundation, designated for the Women’s Cancer Fund, 1150 Medical Campus Dr., Traverse City, MI 49684.
