Lois Jean Schell of Kalamazoo, MI.

Passed away Monday morning, March 4, 2024. Lois was born February 14, 1938 in Lansing, MI the daughter of J.C. and Anna (Simmons) Newman. More than anything, Lois had great faith and loved her family. In 1970, she married the love of her life, Donald Schell. She retired from Upjohn after a long career, including winning The Upjohn Award in 1984. She played on the Upjohn Ladies Softball Team as a catcher and 2nd baseman. She was also a member of the Newman Well Drilling Fast Pitch softball team where they competed and won a couple of state titles. She was an avid Detroit Tiger fan. She loved cooking and baking, especially brownies and red cake, her favorite treats. She loved attending her children's, grandchildren and great-grandchildren's sporting events. She also loved going to horse shows when she was living in Tennessee, where she and her beloved husband, Don, retired.

On February 6, 1970 Lois was united in marriage to her loving husband, Donald Schell who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by a brother and sister, Chuck and Linda. Lois is survived by her children, Jon (Jan) Crippen, Robert (Kristie) Crippen, Jodi Weighmink, Marcia (David) Preston; grandchildren, Tanya Crippen, Lindsey (Jay) Calton, Bobby Jourdan, Zachary Bradley, Ashlie (Brandon) Baddley, Andrew Crippen (Lyne Sherman); great-grandchildren, Cy and Ace Baisden, Bentley, Beckett, and Adalynn Baddley, Freya Crippen, and Ava Sherman; sisters, Shirley Lather, Sandra (Ed) Pratt, Sharon (Chuck) Mohlman, Jacqueline (Bill) Davis; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial gathering for friends and family will be held from 2:00-5:00 pm on Monday, March 11 at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, 3926 South 9th Street, Kalamazoo, MI 49009.
