Lester L. Hempsted

Lester L. Hempsted, 67 of Battle Creek, passed away Friday, July 9, 2010 at the Borgess Medical Center. He was born October 16, 1942 in Battle Creek, Michigan the son of Lester Lawrence and Dorothy (Dailey) Hempsted. Lester worked at Fisher Body in Comstock as a welder for over 20 years; he loved hot rods and classic cars and also enjoyed trap shooting. On June 29, 1959 he was married to Ruth E. (Marion) who survives. Also surviving are two children: Beth (Dave) Heyduck of Battle and Dell (Danette) Hempsted of Burlington; son-in-law: Gary Strickland of Battle Creek; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Lester was preceded in death by a daughter: Carrie Lee Strickland and his parents. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home with Rev. Kimberly A. Tallent of Country Chapel United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be directed to the church.
