Laney, Leonard L. Kalamazoo Passed away Thursday evening, December 2, 2021. Leonard was born December 10, 1927 in Grand Junction, Colorado, the son of Ray and Lura (Grisham) Laney. Shortly after graduating from Blairsville (PA) High School, he signed up for military service beginning with the U.S. Army on 4 Oct 1946. He traveled by troop ship to Japan during the US occupation. Leonard later served in the Pennsylvania Guard, and finally in the U.S. Air Force, and was stationed in Alaska during the Korean conflict. Upon completing his service with the Air Force, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in economics from Purdue University on the GI Bill. On June 26, 1953 Leonard was united in marriage to Barbara Ann (Wharton). They were blessed with four daughters, and Leonard loved to take the family traveling on many trips to see natural and historical landmarks. During their retirement, Leonard and Barbara enjoyed several Elderhostel trips. Leonard is survived by his loving wife of over 68 years, Barbara, and their daughters: Linda (James) Hoffman, Lori (Abdel) Elfataoui, Bonnie (Tom) Eaves; 6 grandchildren; sister and brother, Janet Strong, Marvin Laney; and several nieces and nephews. Leonard was preceded in death by a daughter and son-in-law, Lisa (John) Schade; and sisters, Loretta Geason, Charlene Peterman, Lillian Strong, Alma Wulf, and Eleanor McKee. Friends may meet the family from 10:30-11:30am Thursday December 9 at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, 622 S. Burdick St., Kalamazoo, MI 49007 where funeral services will follow at 11:30am. Interment with full military honors will be held at Ft. Custer National Cemetery at 1:00pm. Memorials may be directed to the Shepherd's Center of Greater Kalamazoo, 1833 S.
