Leonard J. "Butch" Thompson, of Honor, passed away on Wednesday March, 5, 2014 at Munson Medical Center, Traverse City. Leonard was born on April 15, 1941 in Mishawaka, the son of Earl and Virginia (Sellers) Thompson. He was raised in Schoolcraft, MI by his grandparents Basil and Bessie (Roberts) Thompson after the death of his father in 1949. He graduated from Schoolcraft High School in 1959 and attended Glen Oaks Community College. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy (1959-63) and a member of Edward W. Thompson American Legion Post 49, in South Haven MI. Leonard retired as Postmaster in Honor in 2001 after 30 years of service. He enjoyed fishing, reading, watching hockey, football and NASCAR. Leonard was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. He is survived by his wife, Linda; two daughters, Yvonne (Ken) King and Jessica Thompson; step-children, Jessica Fasel and Steven Richard; grandchildren Mallory and Logan King and Madison and Keegan Mead; brother, David (Ginny); and sister, Judith (Carl) Julien. In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A private burial at Brundidge Wilderness Cemetery with family and close friends will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Leonard's memory to the Wounded Warrior Project.
