Leocadia Jaworski

Leocadia Jaworski, 93, of Grand Rapids passed away at her home on August 20, 2015 in the presence of family, after a challenging and rewarding life.

She was born in war-torn Poland, married Tadeusz Jaworski in 1945 and had two children. Wanting a better life for the family, she spearheaded their move in 1964 to Grand Rapids, where they all worked hard to achieve an "American Life" in the best sense: rich with opportunities while never letting go of "the old ways." She took great pride in so many things well done and was, to name a few skills: an expert gardener, a tireless berry-picker, an excellent cook and baker, a skilled knitter, and seamstress.

Part of a generation that was tougher and wiser than any we'll see again, Leocadia was defined by her honor, work ethic, fierce determination, and sense of dignity. She was firm in her Catholic faith and possessed of a great heart and sense of compassion for others. She is greatly missed.

Leocadia is survived by her son Joseph Jaworski; daughter Theodosia Tryon and her husband Gary; granddaughter Andrea and husband Joe; granddaughter Jenny; and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Tadeusz and her grandson Michael.

Visitation is on Sunday, August 23, 2015 from 6 pm to 8 pm at Heritage Life Story Funeral Home, 2120 Lake Michigan Dr. NW, with rosary at 7 pm. Service is Monday, August 24 at 11 am, Basilica St. Adalbert, with lunch to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to Faith Hospice, 2100 Raybrook St. SE, Suite 300, Grand Rapids, 49546 are welcomed.
