Lena VanOosterum

Lena VanOosterum, age 91 of Kalamazoo, died November 23, 2019, at Rose Arbor Hospice. She was born August 7, 1928, in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Marinus and Gerritie (Scholten) Weststrate. Lena was married to Reinard VanOosterum on September 4, 1948. They were members of Comstock Christian Reformed Church. Her family includes her children: Robert VanOosterum and Linda (Bruce) Prince; her step-granddaughters: Michelle and Cheryl and her step-great-grandson Nicholas; her sister Jeanette Simkins and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Reinard, her son Reinard "Sparky" VanOosterum, and her siblings: Gerard, William, Marie, Henry, Helena, John, Adrian "Bud", and John, Jr. Her funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, November 26, 2019 at Comstock Christian Reformed Church, 5300 Comstock Ave. in Kalamazoo with Reverend Dan Brouwer officiating. The family will greet friends an hour prior to the service at the church. A private interment will be in Comstock Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be directed to Kalamazoo Christian School Association or the Diabetes Association.
