Obituary
Mr. Lawrence D. Bos Sr., aged 93, of Cascade, was called home by his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on June 25, 2025. Lawrence was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on September 3, 1931. He was a graduate of Grand Rapids Christian High School and Calvin College (now University) where he received his bachelor's degree in economics and political science. Prior to completing his degree at Calvin College, Larry served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War and met his beloved wife Dolores while stationed at Hunter Air Force Base in Savannah, Georgia. Larry was a member of LaGrave Avenue Christian Reformed Church, as well as a former member at Mayfair Christian Reformed Church, where he served as an Elder and in the Presidency of the Diaconate. Service was important to Larry, and this was shown in many ways, such as serving as Charter Chairman on the board for Hope Network and as a Trustee of the Hope Network Foundation, participating in the development of Sojourners Transitional Living Center, as a Trustee of Hospice of Michigan, as Trustee of St. Cecilia Music Society, President of his local Christian school board, a Trustee of Kuyper College, and a Trustee of the Barnabas Foundation. He also served as City, County, and Michigan State Chairman of the March of Dimes, among many other charitable pursuits. A Licensed Life Insurance Counsellor, Larry was a past President of the Michigan Association of Life Insurance Counsellors, past President of Life Insurance Leaders of Michigan, and served as a member of the Executive Committee of the National Association of Northwestern Mutual Agents. His vast career spanned 63 years at Northwestern Mutual, and he was a life member of the Million Dollar Round Table where he also qualified for Top of the Table. He was preceded in death by his mother, Cecilia Bos (Zuidema), wife Dolores Bos, and two daughters, Sandra Duyst and Mary Ellen Spring. Survived by his loving children, Laura (Larry) Van Popering, Lawrence D. (Dawn) Bos, Jr., his son-in-law James (Sherri) Spring; his grandchildren David (Jodi) Duyst, Amelia (Timm) Peterson, Allison (Jeremy) Hedrick, Erica Duyst, Timothy (Kristina) Duyst, Kelly Bos, Alex Bos, Maria Bos, Grace Van Popering; his great-grandchildren, Rachael Duyst, Ashleigh Duyst, Cassandra Duyst, Kasen Duyst, Clarke Ellen Hedrick, Eliza Ann Hedrick, Savannah Duyst; great-great-grandfather to Vivian Leigh Brown. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 1, 11:00 AM at LaGrave Ave. Christian Reformed Church, 107 LaGrave Ave. SE, with Rev. Peter Jonker officiating. Private interment Rosedale Memorial Park. The family will greet relatives and friends at the Zaagman Memorial Chapel, 2800 Burton St. SE, Monday, June 30, from 4 to 7:30 PM and at church on Tuesday from 10 to 11 AM prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lawrence D. Sr. and Dolores Bos Family Scholarship Fund at Calvin College, Henry Beets Mission Society, or Hospice of Michigan Dolores Bos Crystal Rose Society.
