LaVerne H. Bednar

With her granddaughters Cassie and Lauren by her side, LaVerne H. Bednar, age 82, passed away Sunday, March 18, 2018 at Ascension All Saints Medical Center. She was born in Racine, May 19, 1935, daughter of the late Fredrick and Helen (nee: Willing) Hengst.

She was a graduate of William Horlick High School “Class of 1954”. LaVerne was employed as a school cook with the Racine Unified School District for many years. She will be fondly remembered as an excellent cook, and a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt.

She will be dearly missed by her children, Keith (Peggy) Bednar, Terri Rieker; ten loving grandchildren, Jen (Andy) Skuhra, Erik (fiancée, Lauren) Rieker, Aaron (fiancée, Melissa) Rieker, Nick (fiancée, Trisha) Bednar, Ian Bednar, Nina (Chris) Portman, Cassie Matovich, Ryan Paton, Randy (Ana) Biedenbender, Lauren Bednar; twelve great grandchildren; sister, Doris (Howard) Wohlgemuth; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to her parents, Laverne was preceded in death by her children, Kim Bednar, Traci Murray, Kurt Bednar; grandchildren, Billy Paton, Dana and Gina Bednar; sister, Eleanor (Alvin) Ziegenhagen.

Relatives and friends may meet for visitation at the funeral home on Wednesday, March 28, 2018, from 4:00 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. with a memorial service to follow at 5:30 p.m.
