Obituary
LaMonte "Monty" Wendell Norton age 79 of St. Petersburg, Florida passed away Thursday, June 19th, 2025. Monty was born February 10th, 1946 in Three Rivers, Michigan, the son of Arvid and Iyla (Crane) Norton and lived in the Kalamazoo Michigan area most of his life until relocating to St. Petersburg, Florida to live closer to his son.
He was a graduate of the Michigan Military Academy and served as a Second Lieutenant in the Michigan Army National Guard. Monty worked for General Telephone, in retail sales, and held a Chauffeur's license. Monty was a devoted husband, father, and uncle who cherished strong family ties. He held a private pilot's license in his younger years but will always be remembered as an avid amateur radio operator holding a current license nearly his entire adult life, staying active on the air until his passing. Monty was close to all his family, especially enjoyed his last few years with his son, watching The Ray's games and being together in Florida.
Monty was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by family and friends. Survivors include, one son, Jason Norton of St. Petersburg, Florida; one niece Michelle Oke of Wyoming, Michigan; two nephews, Rev. Michael (Johann) Northrop of Three Rivers, Arvid (Tonya Carpenter) Northrop of Constantine; eight great nieces and nephews, and several cousins who he loved very much. He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Arvis Northrop; and nephew-in-law, Dave Oke.
Family and friends will gather Monday, June 30, 2025, 10:00a.m. until the time of the service 11:00a.m. in Wagner Family Funerals Connelly Chapel, 202 North Broadway Street, Cassopolis.
