Katherine Rapp

Katherine Rapp, age 96, of Portage, MI passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 13, 2016. She was born on February 23,1920 in Szerb Ittebe, the former Yugoslavia, now Serbia. She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-six years, Joseph Rapp; her parents Nikolaus and Theresia (Nuber) Malik. Katherine is survived by her loving daughter Elfriede "Terri" Erhart and son-in law Rainer R. Erhart of Portage; her two granddaughters Kristina M. Erhart of Anchorage, AK; Lisa A. Erhart-McManus (Evan) of Middleville, MI; three great-grandchildren Alex Ursel, Cullin McManus and Kenzie McManus; two nephews Sepp Rapp of Vienna, Austria and Edwin Tausch and family of Westerville, OH. "Omi" as she was called by those who knew and loved her, was known for her old-world cooking and baking. She served her scrumptious treats with her special brand of love and attention to those visiting her kitchen. Guests left yearning for the next time they would be invited to visit and partake of her well-laden table. Omi loved her family and friends with quiet passion and constant concern. She listened with great interest and compassion to all those who came to visit her kitchen table. No one left her presence without the satisfaction of having felt her love and nurturing spirit. May her journey be one filled with a well-stocked kitchen and the lively conversations with her husband Joe, her family and the many friends who left before and are waiting for her with great anticipation. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00AM on Monday, December 19th at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street; where a Funeral Service will begin 11:00AM Monday. A private burial will take place in Schoolcraft Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Katherine's memory may be directed to St. Catherine of Sienna Catholic Church.
