Slatmyer, Karel 1/6/1943 - 2/10/2023 Portage, Michigan Karel Rolland Slatmyer III, 80 years, Portage, MI went home to his Savior Jesus Christ early Friday morning February 10th, 2023 his sisters by his side. Karel was born in Ann Arbor Michigan on January 6th, 1943. He was a long time resident of Kalamazoo, Michigan. Attended Howe Military Academy, Indiana from age 12 - 18 graduating in 1961. He enlisted in USAF 1962-1966. Stationed in Washington, D.C. serving under Presidents Kennedy and Johnson in Presidential Security, Honor Guard, Air Police. After serving he returned to Kalamazoo to attend Western Michigan University and was employed with General Motors retiring after 25 years. Karel was a believer in Christ and spent his life sharing the Gospel of Christ to all he met. He was a committed Christian who lived a simple, quiet life serving the Lord he loved. Karel's life verse is John 3:30 "He must increase, but I must decrease". He never complained through multiple physical trails, focusing on the Lord to see him through. He rarely asked for much and appreciated the smallest of kindnesses, satisfied with so little. Karel was preceded in death by his parents Dr. Karel R. Slatmyer Jr. and Carolyn M. (Carroll) Slatmyer, a sister Genie M. Slatmyer. He is survived by sisters Susan A. Slatmyer and Sarah (Jon) Grider and many nieces and nephews. Karel's Family would like to thank the staff at Rose Arbor Hospice for their tender and loving care of our dear brother. Cremation has taken place. Karel's memorial service will be held Friday, February 17th at Texas Corner's Bible Church, 7780 S. 8th St., Kalamazoo, MI. Visitation at 10am and service at 11am.
