Joyce Slocum

Slocum, Joyce Kalamazoo, Michigan Joyce N. Slocum, of Otsego, passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 2, 2021, with her daughters by her side. She was born August 1, 1937, in Kalamazoo, MI, the daughter of Richard and Tena Ritsema and had lived all her life in the Kalamazoo area. She graduated from Kalamazoo Christian High School. Joyce retired from Kazoo, Inc. in 2006. Joyce loved butterflies, crossword puzzles, reading, recently found fun playing bunco with her neighbors and when she was younger bowling. Joyce married Boyd "Bud" Slocum on November 3, 1956. Bud preceded her in death on March 30, 2012. Surviving are daughters Deborah Linn and Tina Cornwell; grandchildren Ryan (Liana) Smith, Kristina Smith, Tyler Linn, Dustin (Lauren) Cornwell, Chelsea (Saxon) Rodriguez; 8 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is her sister Evelyn Musselman and 7 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister Karen DeBruyn, brothers-in- law Donald Musselman, William DeBruyn and Charles Slocum and sister-in-law Patricia Slocum. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 9:00 pm on Friday, June 11th at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Burial & Cremation Services, 3926 S. 9th Street, Kalamazoo. A private interment will be held at Fort Custer National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Joyce to Rose Arbor Hospice Home.
