Josephine F. Schmitt, age 89, passed away Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints Medical Center. Josephine was born in Milwaukee, WI, February 25, 1926, daughter of the late Joseph and Frances (Nee: Dustir) Pekar.

Josephine married Thomas S. Schmitt on May 22, 1948 in Cudahy and they moved to the Racine area in 1950. He preceded her in death, December 9, 2012. She and her husband owned and operated Schmitt Music for twenty-two years before retiring in September of 1988. Josephine enjoyed reading, needlework, cooking, card making and watching the Brewers and Packers. Above all she was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She will be dearly missed by her children, Mary (Charles) Lueke, Barbara (Peter) Hickey, JoAnne (Daniel) Wright, Jane (David) Nielsen, Robert (Calli) Schmitt, Thomas (Lena) Schmitt, all of Racine; her daughter-in-law, Dr. Denise Janosik of St. Louis; her grandchildren, Paul Lueke, Tiana and Marina Schmitt, Lisa Wright, Jennifer (Tom) Cramsie, Michelle Wright, Brian, Lauren, and Greg Nielsen, Sam Schmitt, Lauren, Sarah, and Lindsey Graf; her great-grandchildren, Athene Meekma, Maddie Duchac; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her son, John Schmitt; grandson, Scott Schmitt; and sister, Marian Becker.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2015, 10:30 A.M. at the funeral home with Rev. Richard Molter officiating. Entombment will follow at Graceland Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Saturday at the funeral home from 9:30 A.M. until time of service at 10:30 A.M. Memorials to one’s favorite charity have been suggested.
