Jose Flores Jr., age 87, passed away Friday, October 21, 2016, at V.A. Medical Center, Des Moines, IA. He was born in San Antonio, TX, November 28, 1928, son of the late Jose and Margarita (Nee: Luna) Flores.

Jose proudly served in the U.S. Air Force as a Staff Sergeant stationed in Japan. On February 17, 1951 in Waukegan, IL, he was united in marriage to Juanita Malacara who preceded him in death March 6, 1996. Jose was employed by J.I. Case Co retiring in 1984. He was a member of St. Edward’s Catholic Church and was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He was involved with the Boys Scouts for 10 years, and involved with the Racine Unified Schools. He served on various civic and political boards and commissions, and on the Wisconsin State Bilingual Program. Jose served as President of the local chapter of LULAC as well having served as the National Vice President of LULAC. He served as Commander for Disabled American Veterans. Jose was a movie buff who also enjoyed dancing, gardening and socializing. He and Juanita were foster parents for many years. Above all Jose was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather who will be dearly missed.

Surviving are 6 children, Christina (David) Hansen of Des Moines, IA, Juan (Amy) Flores of Fond du Lac, Roberto Flores of Bedford, TX, Delia Flores Coca of Racine, Annamaria (Albert) Moore of Racine, Amy Ann (David) Huerta of San Antonio; 24 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; a sister, Margarita (Garth) Shaw of Sommerville, OR; sister-in-laws, Fernanda Flores, Alicia Flores both in San Antonio, TX; nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Rebecca; grandson, Edward; granddaughter, Santa; and 3 brothers, Fernando, Raul, and Juan.

Funeral services will be held at the funeral home Wednesday, October 26, 2016, 6:00 P.M. Relatives and friends may meet Wednesday 4:00 P.M. until time of service. Interment will be held at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio, TX. Memorials to the Disabled American Veterans have been suggested.
