Jon Roger Brayton born, January 12, 1941, current resident of Portage, Michigan passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on January 11, 2021 … one day short of his 80th birthday. Born and raised in Coldwater, Michigan, Jon was an All-Star football, basketball and baseball athlete, graduating from Coldwater High School in 1959. Jon attended Western Michigan University before being drafted into the Vietnam War in 1964. Jon served his country proudly in the Army in various ways, including as a Huey Helicopter Door Gunner. Jon worked for General Motors in Kalamazoo while raising his family, enjoying golf, bowling, cars, coaching his kids' sports teams and being actively involved in their endeavors. Jon was very proud of this 300 bowling series streaks and several golf "Holes in One." After retirement, Jon spent time enjoying life on Austin Lake with his wife Connie, children, and grandchildren boating either on his Hobie Cat sailboat, speedboat or pontoon boat. He also enjoyed traveling to Alaska, Hawaii and cruising the Caribbean. Jon was preceded in death by his father, Melvin Brayton; mother, Mary Brayton Griffith; brother, Michael Brayton; and daughter, Jeanne Brayton Trusty. Jon is survived by his wife, Constance Tobias Brayton; children, Lisa Jolee Brayton (Dennis Boyer), James (Kimm) Brayton, Daniel (Lisa) Brayton; and eight amazing grandchildren, Kali, Hayden, Alec, Baley, Mallory, Chase, Trey and George. He is also survived by his sisters, Peni Ault (Mike) and Ellen Yeakey (Jack); nieces and nephews, Aby Ryan, Sam Brayton, Andrew Brayton, Chris Smith, Jennifer Smith, Brian Petrosoff and Courtney Turner; Aunt Irene Brayton; as well as multiple Brayton, Givan and Thompson cousins. Jon will have a Full Military Service Honor Ceremony at a future date. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to your local Veteran's Post. Jon had been a member of Portage VFW1527 Red Arrow Post.
