John Titus

Titus, John Richard "Jack" 2/18/1935 - 11/8/2021 Richland, MI John R. "Jack" Titus, P.E., 86, of Richland, Michigan died peacefully on Monday, November 8, 2021, at the Laurels of Galesburg. Jack was born February 18, 1935 in Chicago, Illinois to Leo and Agnes H. (Neustifer) Titus. As a child, he moved to Decatur, Michigan, where he was a 1953 graduate of Decatur High School. He received his Mechanical Engineering Degree from Western Michigan University in 1966 while working and supporting his family. He also received his Professional Engineer designation from the State of Michigan in 1966. Jack retired as the C.E.O. of Tower Pinkster Titus Associates and was Chairman of the Board Emeritus. He was a Mechanical Engineer and was the lead engineer for schools, hospitals, pharmaceutical firms, industrial engineering, water power plants, steam and hot water systems, air distribution, high-tech air conditioning systems, ventilation, power management systems, including complete system design, coordination and final system operation. Jack met Phyllis Jean Stambek and they became high school sweethearts. They were united in marriage on April 7, 1956 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Decatur. Surviving are Phyllis, his wife of 65 years; their two daughters and sons-in-law, Denise and Everett Albee of Plainwell, Debora and Steven Wright of Kalamazoo; two grandchildren, Samantha Albee, Erik Wright; a brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Sally Titus of Waldwich, NJ; a niece, nephew and one great niece. Jack was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Ronald Dee Westafter, III. Jack was a member of numerous professional organizations, was a Governmental Mechanical Code Advisor and a member of numerous Professional and Engineering Societies. He conducted seminars, wrote publications and spoke about architecture and mechanical engineering a numerous conventions and forums. Jack loved sailing, and was an avid golfer. He loved his work and was always willing to work hard for anyone that requested his help. In retirement he designed and built, with the help of his lifelong sweetheart, an elaborated toy train city. Jack will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather. Jack's family has planned a visitation and service for Jack's immediate family only at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Richland Chapel. Committal and interment will follow at Prairie Home Cemetery in Richland. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.
