John Potgiesser

Died Sunday afternoon, January 16, 2005. John was born May 30, 1912 in Kalamazoo, Michigan, a son of Thomas and Tillie (Veldt) Potgiesser. He had been a lifelong Kalamazoo area resident, and was employed with the James River Corporation for 28 years, retiring in 1974. He was a member of the Kalamazoo Eagles years ago. He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers, Andrew, Harm, and Thomas Potgiesser. On September 26, 1936, he was united in marriage to Dorothy L. (Hall) Potgiesser, who survives. Also surviving are a son, David (Elaine) Potgiesser of Kalamazoo; 3 grandchildren, Randy (Amy) Pot-giesser, Jon (Jeanine) Pot-giesser, Rhonda (Sgt. Joshua) White; 5 great-grandchildren, Joshua and Nathan Pot-giesser, and Ethan, Chandler, and Ariadne White; 2 step-great-grandchildren, Michael and Katie Schultes; a brother, Richard (Dorothy) Potgiesser of Kalamazoo; 2 sisters, Margaret Holtman of Kalamazoo, and Angie Greendyk of Portage; 2 sisters-in-law, Alice Potgiesser of Kalamazoo, and Shirley Potgiesser of Onondaga, MI; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held 1 o'clock Thursday from the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday. Interment will be in West Cooper Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Greater Kal.
