Johanna Mejeur

Mejeur, Johanna M. Johanna M. Mejeur, age 98, went home to be with her Lord on January 9, 2021 after complications due to Covid-19. She was born February 3, 1922 in Kalamazoo, the daughter of John and Mary (Yonker) Staple. Johanna was a lifelong area resident and member of Centerpoint Church (Third Reformed). She worked for Allen Electric before she began working from home to raise her three children. She was united in marriage to Uko "Dutch" Mejeur on October 1, 1946, who preceded her in death on December 14, 2012. She was also preceded in death by her parents; sister, Amelia (Roy) VanderMeer; brother, Jake (Ethel) Staple; and brother-in-law, Robert Kornoelje. Johanna is survived by her three children, Janice (Edward) Hommes of Aurora, CO, David (Kristine) Mejeur of Kalamazoo, and Joyce (James) Hendricks of Kalamazoo; grandchildren, Kendal (Sonya) Hommes, Timothy Mejeur, Kevin (Melanie) Holwerda-Hommes, Curtis (Nikol) Mejeur, Kyle (Anna) Hommes, Emily (Mitchell) Bareman and Katie (Jeff) Hommes-Algera; 21 great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Kornoelje; brothers-in-law, Wubbo (Alene) Mejeur and Ebo Mejeur; sisters-in-law, Margaret (John) Vander Ploeg, Dorothy Mejeur, and Frances Mejeur; and many nieces and nephews. Due to Covid-19 precautions, a private visitation and graveside service will be held for the family. She will be laid to rest at Ft. Custer National Cemetery. A public memorial service will be planned when it is safe again to do so. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Johanna's memory may be directed to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan, Patient Assistance Fund at Park Village Pines, or Kalamazoo Christian School Association.
