Jocelyn Elaine Hodgman (Cook) died peacefully on May 30, 2023, after a lengthy illness. She resided at Meilland Square (Heritage Community Kalamazoo) where she received loving care.

Jocelyn is survived by her husband of 68 years, Richard W. Hodgman, MD; her children, C. Gregory Hodgman, MD (Kalamazoo, MI), Nicholas Hodgman (Ft. Wayne, IN), and Betsy Burwell (Bellevue, MI); by 7 grandchildren (Jennifer Flowers (Muskego, WI), Eric Hodgman (Acton, MA), Andrew Gruss (Augusta, MI), Emily Cole (Portage, MI), Julie Gullett (Ft. Wayne, IN), Nicholas Hodgman (Ft. Wayne, IN), and Nathan Sanders (Ft. Wayne, IN); and 4 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Betty Cook and brother C. Eugene Cook.

Jocelyn was born on November 6, 1931, in Jackson, Michigan and grew up in Grand Rapids, MI. She graduated from South High School in 1949 where she was homecoming queen. She graduated from Albion College in 1953 and was the first in her family to graduate from a 4-year college. She was a member of the Alpha Xi Delta sorority. After graduating she worked as a middle school teacher until the birth of her first child.

Jocelyn married Dr. Richard Hodgman in 1955. They met on a blind date, were engaged in 6 weeks, and married 7 months later. They shared a loving marriage for 68 years. Jocelyn was "in charge" of the household and dearly loved and was loved by her family.

Jocelyn and Richard spent much of their later years at their Lake Michigan property where there were many family get-togethers, beautiful sunsets, and beach walks. They travelled all over the world. Jocelyn enjoyed gardening, loved nature, and was passionate about the environment. She read extensively. She volunteered for many community activities. Jocelyn was quite social and had many wonderful friends. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.

Friends may meet the family from 10:00-11:00am on Friday, June 9 at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, 3926 South 9th Street, Kalamazoo, MI 49009 where a service to celebrate her life will follow at 11:00am. A light reception will follow the memorial service in the Langeland Family Center. Private interment will be held at a later date.
