Joan W. Schacht, age 70, passed away Saturday, November 28, 2015 at the Hospice Alliance Hospice House, Pleasant Prairie, WI after her courageous battle with cancer. Joan was born in Wauwatosa, WI, July 21, 1945, daughter of the late James and Doris (Nee: LIske) Bookhamer.

On October 7, 1978 she was united in marriage to John Schacht. Joan was employed for many years by Lake Air International and U.S. Steel, lastly at The Prairie School for nineteen years until her retirement. In her earlier years she was a model. She was a member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church. Joan served as Mayor of Star Lake, WI and was a member of Star Laker’s Club. She enjoyed playing cards, fishing, all sports, cars, and had a great love for dogs. Joan will be fondly remembered for her great sense of humor and for never taking life too serious.

She will be dearly missed by her loving husband, John, affectionately known as “Grumpy”; her son, R.J. Schacht III; her sister, Diana (Marty) Hofmeister; sisters-in-law, Peggy McCausland, Marilyn (Patrick) McGriff; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 12, 2015, 12:00 P.M. at the funeral home with Rev. Michael Mueller officiating. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Saturday at the funeral home from 10:30 A.M. until time of service at 12:00 P.M.

A special thank you to the staff at Froedtert Memorial Hospital and the caregivers at the Hospice House for their loving and compassionate care.
