Obituary
Janice Lillian Hessler, 61, of Portage, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly at her home and was pronounced deceased on Thursday, January 8, 2026. Janice was born on June 22, 1964, in Hudson, Michigan, to William and Dixie (Keppel) Hessler. Janice grew up in Portage, Michigan, where she built lifelong memories and friendships. She graduated from Portage Central High School in 1982 before attending cosmetology school, where she found joy and pride in practicing hair. She had a natural gift for making others feel beautiful, cared for, and seen. Janice was a devoted mother, sister, and friend-someone whose generosity and warmth touched everyone around her. She loved planting flowers in the spring, filling her home with the smells of her homemade cooking and baked goods, and giving and receiving thoughtful homemade gifts. Some of her happiest moments were spent traveling with her children, spending time with her parents, and attending her brother's football games, where he coached-creating memories that will be cherished forever. She had a deep passion for animals, especially her beloved cat, Max. Janice enjoyed bike rides, movies, books, sports, long walks in the neighborhood, shopping, and all things hair, makeup, and clothing. Her creativity, her style, and her gentle spirit made her truly one of a kind. Janice is survived by her children: son Kenton J. Stufflebeam of Nashville, TN; daughter Kalyn E. Stufflebeam of Kalamazoo, MI; and daughter Marlee E. Stufflebeam of Allegan, MI; her brother, Brad J. Hessler (Denise) of Paw Paw, MI; as well as four nephews and one niece. She is preceded in death by her mother, Dixie M. Hessler; her father, William J. Hessler; and her sister, Keely A. Hessler. Janice's unexpected passing leaves a profound emptiness in the lives of those who loved her. Her kindness, her laughter, and her vibrant presence will be deeply missed and forever remembered. No visitation or funeral arrangements have been made at this time. Please share memories and condolences at www.langelands.com
