Life Story / Obituary

Janice Grace Johnson, 62, Plainwell, MI, Passed away on Wednesday, August 10, 2016. After her valiant fight with Leukemia since 2004. Her strong will to live, love of life, and unwavering faith in God, and the love and prayers of family, friends, and many supporters carried her through. Yet even throughout her own struggle with Cancer, she reached out to others. Spreading hope and joy no matter how hard life got.

Janice was born on January 25, 1954 in Detroit, Michigan to Andrew and Esther (Lambert) Owens who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were her sister Darlene, daughter Kelly and son Casey. She was the youngest of three girls-surviving sister Sharon (Ron) Blevins. She is also survived by her loving husband of 46 years- Larry Johnson, Her daughter- Tammy (Rory) Kaufman, Her sons- Darwin (Katie) Johnson, and Billy Johnson, five grandchildren – Logan, Riley, Brittany, Tyler and Lucas, and great grandchildren – Liam and Lillian.

Together for 47 years, Janice & Larry raised their children. Possessing a true servant’s heart, Janice faithfully cared for family and friends through delicious cooking/baking from scratch – including cake decorating, sewing and crafting. A woman of faith and the heart of the Johnson family, Janice filled our lives by her tireless love and care. With a real zest for life, She loved to cook, garden, read, pray, participate in walks for The Children’s Leukemia Foundation of Michigan and spend time with family – especially with her Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren.

Known for her ease in frequent conversation with even total strangers, she possessed a contagious smile and an entertaining sense of humor. Throughout her life she maintained a sweet and simple demeanor that won the trust and hearts of many, who even now are being changed by her witness of constant nurturing love and faith. Her signature gift of joy, shown through her constant smiling, laughter, and joking around, will never be forgotten.

You may be gone from our sight, but you will never be gone from our hearts!
