Janet A. Franke

Janet Arlene Franke went home to be with her Lord on January 23, 2020 at the age of 87. Janet was born September 18, 1932, in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Jacob and Gertrude (Kiel) Bouma. She was a lifelong area resident and on September 24, 1954, she was united in marriage to Herman H. Franke. She was a former member of the Portage Reformed Church and currently a member of the Covenant United Reformed Church. Throughout the years Janet had worked at The Upjohn Company; planted in the greenhouses; and was a receptionist for Langeland Family Funeral Homes for several years. She enjoyed taking travels, cruises and spending special time with her siblings. Janet was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years Herm Franke on February 5, 2019; by her parents; and siblings, John Bouma and Eleanor Batts. Family was a very important part of Janet's life, especially caring for all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Surviving are her three daughters and spouses: Lynn (Jeff) Osterhouse, Barb (Bob) Razenberg, Cheryl (Ty) VerMeulen; grandchildren: Andrea (Chris) Blodgett, Kelli (Joshua) Douglas, Brandon (Ariel) Osterhouse, Zachary (Megan) Razenberg, McKena Razenberg, Tara Razenberg, Tyler (Aubrey) VerMeulen, Samuel (Hanna) VerMeulen, Jacob VerMeulen; great-grandchildren: Addison, Alexis & Andrew Blodgett, Jordyn & Jackson Douglas, Lucas VerMeulen and Baby Osterhouse arriving in February; sisters: Dorothy (John) Balkema, Beverly (Paul) Mepyans; in-laws: Mary Franke and Mick Bouma; nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00PM on Monday, January 27th at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Burial & Cremation Services, 411 E. Centre Ave. The funeral service will be held at 11:00AM Tuesday, January 28th at the Covenant United Reformed Church (3724 Lovers Lane) with Pastor Phil Vos officiating. A private family committal will be held in Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Memorials in Janet's memory may be directed to Rose Arbor Hospice Residence.
