James A. Miller, age 62, of Kalamazoo, MI died at his home under hospice care on May 20, 2015. James was born in Grand Rapids to Allan and Mary (Faberski) Miller on November 23, 1952, and was a 1970 graduate of Grand Haven High School. A Western Michigan University graduate, his focus was music and "Jazz" joined a roommate as bass guitarist with "The Garage Band" in local venues in the early '80s. Living close to town, James had an easy commute to Jacobson's where he spent the next 17 years, first in shipping and receiving and later in operations. James married Barbara Saula in 1987, and they share 2 children, Preston and Leigh. After Jacobson's left the area, he changed trades to become a title examiner and held that occupation, most recently at Devon Title, until his retirement in October 2014. James was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Gerard Miller. He took great pride in his children, was a Milwood Little League coach for many years, and was a supporter of Loy Norrix athletics with both his son and daughter in different sports. James was Past Master 32 degree, Mason of the Year in 2013 and on the vestry committee at St. Luke's. He loved ancestry research and focused heavily on the Miller side. He made connections and attended reunions. He continued to jam with fellow musicians, write music and lyrics, dote on his pets, look forward to his annual golf outings and enjoy the company of old dear friends. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 30th at 10:00 o'clock at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 247 Lovell Street, with Rev. Dr. Randall Warren officiating. Fellowship will follow the service. Memorials may be directed to the family. Arrangements were made by the Langeland Family Funeral Homes.
