James Curtis

Jim passed away Tuesday, September 14, 2021 at his home in Portage. He was born March 29, 1936 in Florida, the son of Eveylyn Carpenter. For many years Jim worked in sales at Allied Paper Company until his retirement. Jim enjoyed traveling, dancing and boating. He was a longtime member and a Commodore of the Singapore Yacht Club in Saugatuck. On December 15, 1985 at Allegan Episcopal Good Shephard Church he married Joan Leighton who passed away last December. Surviving are his children, Brad (Ronnie) Curtis and Keith (Angie) Curtis; step-children, Richey (Patricia) Anson, Tami (Doug) Dommert, Bill (Jackie) Sleeman and Marc (Kathy) Sleeman; grandchildren, Darrick Curtis, Ryan (Tara) Curtis, Brittany (Bobbie) Curtis and Bradley Curtis; step-grandchildren, Marcus, Grant, Anthony, Dillon, Katie, Natalie, Gracie and Gabi; great-grandchildren, Cameron, Aubrey and Axle and step-great-grandchildren, Ellie Jay and Mariah. He was preceded in death by his mother and sister, Jeanette Stoughton and first wife, Marilyn Helentahal. According to his wishes cremation has taken place. A gathering of close family and friends will take place on October 2, 2021. Contributions in memory of Jim may be made to Wings of Hope Hospice.
