LaParl , Jacqueline 5/6/1930 - 12/29/2021 Chapel Hill, NC Jacqueline (Jackie) LaParl died peacefully on December 29, 2021 in Chapel Hill, NC. Jackie was born in Mt. Clemens, MI on May 6, 1930. Thanks to the hard work of her parents, Roy and Luella Shrank, Jackie had a wonderful childhood, splitting her time between Battle Creek and Ft. Lauderdale. In her younger years, Jackie was fortunate to have lived on Gull Lake, where she spent her summers water skiing and swimming. Jackie was also an accomplished tennis player and a life long fan of the sport. Jackie was a proud graduate of the University of Michigan, as well as a dedicated Wolverine sports fan. She also obtained her Master's degree from Eastern Michigan University. In 1957, Jackie married the love her life, John Robert LaParl. After short stints living in Battle Creek, and then Ann Arbor where they completed their graduate studies, Jackie and John settled in Kalamazoo where they raised their three children, Suzanne (Gary Green), John, Jr. (Diana LaParl) and Roy. In her career, Jackie taught remedial reading in the Kalamazoo Public School system. She took great pride in developing a zest for reading and education amongst hundreds of children. In their late forties, Jackie and John became avid sailors. Jackie often remarked that some of her best times were spent sailing the Great Lakes with John and close friends. One of her proudest accomplishments was a six month journey sailing from Lake Michigan to Ft. Lauderdale with John. Jackie was a gifted writer, as well as a fan and benefactor of the arts. She enjoyed live theatre, the symphony and visiting art galleries. Jackie also had a passion for travel and was fortunate to travel the world and experience many new and unique cultures. Jackie loved a spirited debate and intellectual challenge. In 2017, Jackie moved to Carolina Meadows in Chapel Hill, NC to be closer to her daughter's family. She loved her time in the south; especially those moments she spent with her daughter, granddaughters and great grandchildren. Jackie was a devoted grandmother to her four grandchildren, Chantal (Green) McGill, Annalise Green, Lindsey LaParl and Lauren (LaParl) Rademacher, as well as a proud great grandmother to Estelle and Julien McGill. There will be a private family memorial. Jackie made the world a better place and will be missed by so many.
