Jacob, age 39, died unexpectedly on Thursday, February 13, 2020 at his residence. Jacob, the son of Jeffrey F. and Peggy O. (Oakes) Scott, was born in Kalamazoo on December 23, 1980. He was a lifetime Richland area resident and graduated with honors from Gull Lake High School in 1999. He was an excellent athlete and was a stand out on his high school baseball and soccer teams. He was an exceptional baseball pitcher and played college baseball for the University of Arkansas Little Rock and Grand Valley State University. He later transferred to Western Michigan University where he received a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration. In 2005 he was blessed with the birth of his daughter, Marissa Nicole Scott, who survives him. Jake and Marissa had a bond and love for each other that was beyond words. Jake treasured and loved his daughter, she was his whole world. He was involved in every aspect of her life, including coaching all of her sports teams. Jake is also survived by his parents, Jeffrey and Peggy (Oakes) Scott of Galesburg, MI; a brother, Jared A. (Kimberly) Scott of Geneva, IL; and his paternal grandmother, Shirley Scott of Three Rivers, MI. Jake was preceded in death by his sister, Vanessa L. Scott, as well as his maternal grandparents, K. Charles Oakes and Wioma Boss and paternal grandfather, Gerald Scott Jake's family will greet friends and family on Sunday, February 23rd from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Richland Chapel, 9170 East D Avenue (M-89). The Funeral Service to celebrate Jake's life will be held on Monday, February 24th at 1:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 8047 Church Street, Richland, MI 49083 with the Rev. Dr. Mark W. Jennings, Pastor, officiating. A luncheon will follow at the church immediately following the Service. There will be a private family interment the following day for the family at the Schoolcraft (MI) Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Jake's honor may be made payable to the "Trust for the Benefit of Marissa N. Scott" Educational Trust Fund, and mailed to the Farley Estes Dowdle funeral home or in person at the visitation.
