Smith, Jack A. Kalamazoo Age 83, passed away January 1, 2023. Jack was born June 24, 1939, in Plainwell, Michigan, the son of his late parents, Adelbert G. and Jacqueline (Cushman) Smith. On September 6, 1965, he was united in marriage to Suzanne (Spayde) Smith who survives. As a youth, he was a resident of Otsego, Michigan, working at his father's Cities Service Station after school. He attended and graduated from the Otsego School System. Jack was active in the Otsego Boy Scouts and was proud to have been able to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. Later he attended and graduated from Ferris State College. Jack was drafted into the Army and spent nearly two years as a Military Policeman in Germany. He often spoke fondly of his ability to travel throughout Europe while in the military. Jack was employed by General Motors for nearly thirty-four years with most of that time spent as a Labor Relations Representative before retiring in 1999. His family will recall hearing of his many good times, trials and tribulations as he sat across the table meeting with the United Auto Workers Union. In recent years, Jack worked part-time as a driver for a local auto auction. Jack loved spending time in Bradenton Beach, Florida and cherished the years he and Suzanne spent in their special condominium they referred to as paradise. His marriage to Sue resulted in four loving daughters and their families. Surviving are his daughters, Katrina (Jim) VanHoose of Battle Creek, Elisabeth (Gary) Formet of Orlando, Florida, Gretchen (Tim) Lyle of Kalamazoo, and Nicole (John) Lewis of Portland, Oregon; as well as four grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; two nephews, and two great-granddaughters.
