Hugh Street

Hugh F. Street, age 72, of Kalamazoo, MI, passed away surrounded by family on April 1, 2025, in Dewey, Arizona. He was born in Detroit on April 14, 1952, the son of Eddie and Imogene (Henry) Street.

Hugh graduated from Northern High School, class of 1969, and later graduated from Western Michigan University. He was married to Jewell (Mitchell) Street on May 15, 1976, in Detroit. Hugh started work at General Motors in February of 1973 as a Die Maker and proudly retired at the age of 51 after 30 years of hard work. However, Hugh was adamant that although he had retired from GM, he was not a retiree. He went on to found Dedicated Design and Engineering LLC with one of his friends. Hugh thrived at using both his creative and engineering talents and was constantly thinking of his next great invention.

Hugh had a true servant's heart and a gift for making people smile and bringing them together. For many years, Hugh led a bicycle group called the Spirit Riders and ensured that every Saturday the group would meet up for fellowship, be it on the bikes or just for breakfast when weather did not allow for a ride. He was a man of many talents and interests including cooking, yard work, walking, programming, carpentry, home improvement projects, fishing and he was a true lover of music whether it be listening, singing, or playing various instruments. Hugh was a loyal friend, husband, dedicated father and faithful man of God.

Hugh is survived by his three children: Mitchell, Nick, and Sarah Street; his sister Mary Allean Scott; his cousins: Dorothy Pryor Sikes, Shanae Dowell, Janet Coleman, and Ken Byrd; his nieces and nephews: Mary Beth and Mark Scott; and a host of other loving cousins, nephews, and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Jewell, his sisters Faye and Jean Ann Street, his nephew Matthew Scott, and his cousin Juanita Compton.

A funeral service will be held for Hugh on Saturday, May 3, 2025 at 2:00pm with a visitation starting at 1:00pm prior to the service, at Langeland Family Funeral Homes and Burial & Cremation Services, 3926 S 9th Street, Kalamazoo, MI 49009.
