Helen Nelson

Passed away Sunday evening, August 7, 2022 at her home. Toots was born January 30, 1926 in Kalamazoo the daughter of Nanno and Dorothy (Jacobs) Hazelhoff. She was a member of First Reformed Church of Portage and enjoyed working in the greenhouse planting and in her flower gardens at home. On July 18, 1946 she was united in marriage to her loving husband of over 50 years, Harry Nelson, Jr. who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by a brother John “Bud”; and sisters, Ann and Jean. Toots is survived by her daughters, Ruth (Bob), Donna; grandchildren, Justin (Brittany), Dan; great-grandchildren, Haley and Sophie; several nieces and nephews; and her furry friend Millie. Friends may meet the family from 2:00-4:00pm and 6:00-8:00pm Thursday, August 11 at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, 411 East Centre, Portage, MI 49002. Graveside services will be held at 1:00pm Friday, August 12 in Portage South Cemetery.
