Helen Marie Brown

Helen Marie (Alman) Brown, 83 passed away on January 5, 2020 following a stroke. Helen was born December 5, 1936 to Aileen and John Alman. She lived in Kalamazoo all her life, graduating from State High School in 1955. She attended nursing school and received her LPN Diploma. In 1957 she married the love of her life, Jay H. Brown, Jr. They were married for over 60 years and had five children. Helen was a lifelong wonderful and loving wife and mother. She was an active member of the Oshtemo United Methodist Church, where she served tirelessly in many capacities, including going on humanitarian mission trips and counseling at Special Persons Camp. Helen was preceded in death by her husband and her son Jay III. She is survived by her daughter Katie Dyer (Dan), her sons Dave (Barb), Dan (Pam), and Andy (Patricia), 13 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. There will be a memorial service on Saturday, January 18, 2020 at 11:00 AM at the Oshtemo United Methodist Church, with a visitation starting at 10:00 AM. Donations may be made in her memory to Heifer International or Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan. Helen was a devout Christian, a kind and sweet lady who spent her life with the sole purpose of helping others. She has touched countless lives through her work with the church, world missions and community service. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
