91, died at Bronson Hospital on March 21, 2018. Helen was born April 21, 1926 to George F. and Helen L. (Dolgner) Vinz in Dalton, Wisconsin. She resided there until she left for Nursing Education in Wauwatosa (Milwaukee), Wisconsin. She served in the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps during World War II, graduating from the Milwaukee County General Hospital, School of Nursing. She worked as a staff, special duty, and head nurse in the Milwaukee area until moving to Kalamazoo in 1967. She worked for Bronson Hospital as a staff nurse, patient educator, nurse educator, and supervisor until her retirement. She was an alumnus of Milwaukee County General Hospital, School of Nursing, Western Michigan University, and Milwaukee School of Engineering. She was married to Richard W. Arend of West Allis, Wisconsin, on June 19, 1954 She was preceded in death by her husband in 1989; her parents; six siblings: John (Thelma), H. Ogden (Gladys), George (Alma), Virginia, Mary Louise (Robert) Cooke, Morris (Lila); two sons-in-law: William Schultz and Stanley Oster; mother- and father-in-law Bertram and Mary Jean Arend, and sister-in-law Ora Lee Arend. She leaves her children: Mark W., of Oshkosh Wisconsin, Mary R. Arend-Oster of Connecticut, John R. of Kalamazoo, and Annette Weigelt (Lars Heiring) of Fjerritslev, Denmark; grandchildren Brandon W. (Sara) Wilrend and Anneliese H. Arend of Kalamazoo, and Samuel R. Oster of Detroit; great-granddaughter Anneliese M. Wilrend; brother-in-law Dennis R. Arend of Arizona; many nieces and nephews; and special friends. She was baptized into the Lutheran faith and remained a steadfast Lutheran throughout her life. She was a member of Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Portage. Special thanks to Dr. Philip Stott who treated and cured her of lymphoma many years ago, to her many healthcare providers at Bronson Hospital, Rose Arbor Hospice, and Borgess Gardens Nursing Home and to her church family.
