Harriett was born in Muskegon Michigan on March 28th, 1937. Harriett graduated from Muskegon Senior High School 1956. She was married to Fred Toxopeus in 1960 and they started their family in 1962. She was a stay at home mom as their family grew. Her family moved to Portage, MI in 1968 and eventually moved to their forever home on Crooked Lake, Kalamazoo, MI. Harriett worked for First National bank as a bank teller and later promoted to bank manager. Eventually she switched careers and worked for Dr. Tonn Dentistry, as the office manager. She also was a volunteer for the American Red Cross and coordinated numerous blood drives. After her retirement, she helped take care of her grandchildren, went on numerous trips with her husband and soul mate Fred and wintered in Marco Island and Goodland, FL. She loved walking the beach and spending hours collecting sea shells. Harriett was an avid shopper and loved to buy clothes for herself, her family and anyone who needed them. She was always dressed to the nines! She loved decorating her home and had a flair for making things look amazing. She loved to garden and always had beautiful flowers surrounding her home. She was a gourmet cook and she was happiest when she was cooking meals for the people she loved. Two years ago, she hand wrote all her favorite recipes in a book that was over 100 pages long for her grandchildren for Christmas. Harriett was a "giver", she always knew what people needed without asking them, what do you need? She just gave her time, her talents, but mostly her love. It was most important to her that she made people feel loved. More importantly, her family was her everything and she dedicated her life to them.
