D. Glyn Lake, age 73, of Kalamazoo, MI. Loving father and husband, hardworking entrepreneur, engineer, and business owner, Glyn Lake passed away early Monday morning, May 23, 2016. Born in Epsom, Surrey, England in 1943, Glyn was the son of William and Blodwen (Williams) Lake. Friends and family reflect fondly on the passion Glyn had for life and the people he encountered a passion he willingly shared with everyone and applied to everything he did. He was a dedicated family man who took great risks to build a successful fluid handling equipment business. His work ethic, drive, and passion led to a successful and well-balanced business and home life for his family. His passion was immediately felt to any newcomer as it was easy to engage Glyn in a deep conversation within minutes of meeting him. He always enjoyed meeting new people and getting to know others on a deeper and personal level, especially when a pint of England's finest ale or a golf club was involved. As a successful business owner, his philosophy was simple: Work hard and make it a priority to enrich the lives of fellow employees and others, so they could live better lives. His passion also shone through in his hobbies, which included travelling, gardening, loving on his eight grandchildren, investing, Chelsea football, and golf. He loved to tell stories, jokes, and puns that only sounded good with a British accent! He lived life to the fullest and loved to laugh. Glyn was preceded in death by his first wife, Susan Sadler Lake and is survived by his second wife Kathie Griffin Lake, daughter Kerry (Paul Arkinstall) Lake of Portage and son Stuart (Leslie) Lake of Atlanta, GA. He is also survived by step-children Bryan (Kristin) Griffin , James (Britt) Griffin and grandchildren Gavin, Claire, Brandon, Sean, Connor, Oliver, Finley, and Graeme; sisters Anne (Noel) Ryan, Heather (John) Arkinstall; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service to celebrate Glyn's life will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, May 31 at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, located at 3926 South 9th Street. Friends are cordially invited to meet the family and join in the celebration of Glyn's life on Tuesday from 10:00-11:00 am prior to the service. A private family interment will be in Mountain Home Cemetery in Kalamazoo. In lieu of flowers, memorials and donations may be directed to Ministry with Community or The Glyn Lake WMU Engineering Scholarship Fund at Battle Creek Community Foundation, 32 W.
