Obituary
Gladys E. Young passed away on September 14, 2024, in Grand Rapids, MI, at the age of 89. Born on August 25, 1935, in Greer, SC. she graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School and later attended Grand Rapids Junior College.
Gladys was a beloved figure in her community and cherished by her family. She dedicated her early years to nurturing her three children, instilling in them the values of love and education. After her children were grown, Gladys returned to school to pursue her passion for teaching, eventually shaping young minds as a preschool teacher. She was known for her kindness and was often described as a sweetheart by those who knew her well.
In retirement, Gladys and her husband Bob (who predeceased her in 2000) enjoyed traveling across the United States in their motor home, exploring new places and making lasting memories. She was a long-time member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Grand Rapids, where she participated in various community activities.
Gladys is survived by her loving children, James Young (Susan), Nancy Brock, and William Young (Marnita); five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by one grandchild. She has been a source of wisdom and joy in our lives and will be deeply missed.
There will be a gathering of family and friends to celebrate her life which will be held in the B.K. room at Clark Retirement Home, 1551 MLK Drive, Grand Rapids, MI, on October 8th from 4 to 6 pm. A private inurnment will follow on October 9th at Mount Ever-Rest Memorial Park in Kalamazoo, MI.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Gladys' memory to Faith Hospice-Grand Rapids, The Clark Benevolent Care Fund (In honor of the Vigil Volunteers), or The March of Dimes.
