Gilbert Steven Culp

Gilbert Steven Culp East Leroy Gilbert Steven Culp, age 75, of East Leroy, MI, died Friday morning, May 1, 2008, at Borgess Medical Center, Kalamazoo, MI, following a 5-week illness. Gil was born on July 7, 1932 in Battle Creek, MI and was the son of Ivan and Hazel Culp. He was a graduate of Battle Creek Lakeview High School. Gil retired in 1996 as a bus driver for the Battle Creek Transit Authority after 20 years of faithful service. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict serving his country as a Damage Control Fireman aboard the USS Bottineau. Gil was a member of the American Legion Post #298 of Battle Creek and had worked for Access Vision Public TV. He was an avid fan of any sports, especially the Detroit Teams and Michigan State University. Gil a was a Leroy Township Constable and always enjoyed a round of golf. On September 6, 1966 in Battle Creek, Gil was united in marriage to the former, Gloria E. Cassady and she survives. Also surviving are his four daughters: Debi (Tim) Reen of Battle Creek, Diane Douglas of FL, Donna (Doug Reisterer) Culp and Sandra (John) Foote, both of Galesburg, MI; his son: Daniel Culp of Tacoma, WA; a stepdaughter: Anne (Charles) Trent of Baytown, TX; thirteen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and his brother: Gordon (Jackie) Culp of Battle Creek. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother: Gerald. The funeral service to celebrate Gil's life will be held on Saturday, May 3rd at 10:00 a.m. at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home with the family receiving friends one hour prior to the service.
