Gene, age 81, died peacefully Monday morning, December 30, 2019 at his residence in Portage, MI with his daughter, Julie and son, Greg at his side. Gene, the son of Henry S. and Ila C. (Summers) Worthington, was born in Ann Arbor, MI on September 5, 1938; was a 1956 graduate of Mason (MI) High School and moved from Tulsa, OK to Bremen, IN to Augusta with his work. He retired in 2000 from Eaton Corporation of Galesburg, MI as the Engineering Specifications Writer after 14 years of faithful service. Gene and his wife, Marcia were the Owner/Operators of the Flower Depot of Galesburg. He was a member of the Shopping Guide Bowling Team (Lansing, MI) that were the Michigan State Champions of 1964. Gene was an avid Model Car Collector and a former member of The Road Aces of Lansing with his immaculate, 1957 Chevy. He enjoyed puzzle solving and was constantly reading car magazines. One of his favorite places to visit was the Gilmore Car Museum. Gene was united in marriage to the former, Marcia Ann Berger, in Lansing, MI on May 24, 1969 and she sadly preceded him in death on August 29, 2018. Surviving is his daughter, Julie E. (Mike) Wagar of Climax, MI; his son, Greg G. Worthington of Livonia, MI; two precious granddaughters, Ashley L. (Kyle) Schunk and Emily R. Wagar and his brother, Charles E. (Sharon) Worthington of Cadillac, MI. Gene was also preceded in death by his parents and Barney, his dog. Gene's family will greet friends on Thursday, January 9th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Augusta Chapel, 307 N. Webster Street. The Funeral Service to celebrate Gene's life will be held on Friday, January 10th, 11:00 a.m. at the Augusta Chapel with Chaplain Blessed Madugba, officiating. Interment will be in Augusta Village Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Gene's honor may be directed to Hospice Care of Southwestern Michigan, 222 N.
