DeYoung, Gary J 5/5/1948 - 3/20/2021 Kalamazoo, Michigan Aged 72, passed away on March 20, 2021 following a brief illness. He was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan on May 5, 1948, the son of Harm DeYoung and Arlene (Kooi) DeYoung. Following high school, Gary enlisted in the United States Air Force and honorably served our country during the Vietnam war,. Gary was discharged as a Staff Sergeant in 1971. While overseas, he met a young lady named Lomyong Schometong, they fell in love and were married on March 3, 1971 in Thailand. Gary and Lomyong most recently celebrated 50 years of marriage. After returning to the U.S., Gary began his career with Clarage Fan Company in Assembly. Gary was honored to be a member of the Patriot Guard. He also enjoyed waterskiing and any other water-related sports, such as fishing and spending time at his mother's cottage at Eagle Lake in Bloomindale, Michigan. Gary was preceded in death by his parents and his parents-in-law, Rye and Lange Schometong and his nephew Scott DeYoung. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Lomyong, their sons, Mark and his fiance', (Eleonore Derieux) DeYoung and Robert DeYoung, as well as his beloved grandchildren, (twins) Stacia and Tephani DeYoung, along with his brothers, Fred (Iva) DeYoung and Roger (Trish) DeYoung. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place and a graveside service with full military honors will be held at Fort Custer National Cemetery, on Wednesday, May 12, 2021. Due to COVID19 restrictions, the family is limited to the number that may attend. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan, care of the funeral home. Please feel free to leave a condolence message on Gary's guestbook.
