Fred Hagen

Hagen, Fred 5/9/1945 - 4/17/2021 Phoenix, Arizona Frederick E. Hagen (Fred), 75, Phoenix, AZ. April 17th. His death was due to complications after a fall while golfing in Arizona with good friends from Houghton. Fred grew up in Houghton and played basketball, football, and ran track for Houghton High School. He played two years on the Michigan Tech basketball team and ran track there as well. He loved sports and the comradery it brought and continued to play sports and exercise for the remainder of his life. After graduating from Michigan State, and spending two years in the army, Fred earned an MBA from Western Michigan. He settled in Kalamazoo, working at American National Bank, Old Kent Bank and Fifth Third Bank. He married Lynn and they raised Sarah and Allyson in Portage. Fred retired in 2002 and waited for Lynn to retire. Retirement plans together changed when Lynn passed away in 2007. Fred moved to Arizona, where Allyson and her family reside, he made trips to Europe, the United Kingdom, Africa and South America. He returned to Houghton each summer and loved seeing old friends. Fred was always looking for the next adventure. He was serious about pottery, both making and collecting it. His spirit was indomitable and was a lesson to all those who knew him. We will miss him! Fred was born in Hancock, Michigan to Robert and Isabelle Hagen. He is survived by children Sarah (Yoann) Lefevre and Allyson (Charles) Rathert and grandchildren Dominic, Elaina and Sidney and by his brother Bob (Sheila) Hagen. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Lynn. In Leiu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to, Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and or Juvenile Diabetes research foundation.
